Ordinary People Living Extraordinary Lives

In the weeks ahead, this blog will present the lives of teachers, both histoic and present who have lived extraordinary lives while being just ordinary people. Each of their lives was influenced by a defining moment which transformed the direction of their educational focus. Consider Barbara Henry when she signed a contract to teach at Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana in 1960. Or Mary McLeod Bethune as she and her students stood on the steps of their school at night with the KKK intimidating them. Or Tory Hayden journaling the behaviors of her special education students. Stand on the rooftops with Thomas Barnardo in horror. Feel the pain of Thomas Gallaudett as he watches a deaf girl play alone. Ride the rails with Clara Comstock and her batch of orphans. Discover the defining event in these people’s lives that catapaulted them onto an unusual path of education. What will be your pivotal event? Where will it lead? Only time will tell.

If you have had a defining moment that transformed your life, share it with me at clampos@sbcglobal.net. I would love to hear from yu.
